Click here for Itinerary & PriceCrowned by Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak, the Amboseli National Park is one of the best place in Africa to view large herds of elephants up close as well as the glorious views of Mount Kilimanjaro. The park is also home to over 80 mammals species, including a large resident population of wildebeest, Burchell's zebra, Thomson's and Grant's gazelle, buffalo, warthog, impala, waterbuck, dik dik, Maasai giraffe and eland. Vervet monkey and yellow baboon inhabit the scarce woodlands, mainly around Ol Tukai Lodge. Spotted hyena, black-backed jackal, wild cat, bat-eared foxes and caracal are also found here. Encountering the traditional Maasai people who live around the park and experience their authentic culture is another highlight of visiting Amboseli. The 400 bird species will also excite birders. We are listing several 2023 and 2024 Amboseli packages below which range from budget road trips to luxury Fly-In Safaris staying at boutique Tented Camps.
Flying Safaris offer the convenience of reaching Amboseli within 45minutes from Nairobi. Flights take off from Wilson airport in Nairobi daily, and upon arrival at the airstrip in Amboseli, guests are received and transfered to their respective Camp or Lodge in time for lunch. Game drives are provided in 4x4 Safari Vehicles by the property.
The most popular mode of getting to Amboseli is by road, typically starting and ending in Nairobi, with the choice of vehicles being a 4x4 Landcruiser Jeep or the less costly Safari Minibus (Tour Van). The trip from Nairobi to Amboseli takes anything from 3 to 4.5 hours depending on which camp has been booked for your stay. The benefit of a safari by road is the typically lower cost as well as getting to see and experience more of the real Kenyan countryside. The downside is that stretches of road on the route are in below average condition.
There are two basic types of Safari vehicles used in Kenya and Tanzania for wildlife and adventure safaris. These are the Tour Minibus / Van and the 4x4 Toyota Landcruiser Jeeps. Both of these have game viewing roofs, UHF radio calls ( useful for locating game and for logistics) and are fully safari customized.
